EMBASSY STEPS UP INFO DRIVE ON ABSENTEE VOTING LAW

Republic Act No. 9189, also known as “The Overseas Absentee Voting Act of 2003” gives all qualified citizens of the Philippines abroad the right to participate in the election of the President, Vice-President, Senator and party-List Representatives during the May 10, 2004 elections in the Philippines.

All Filipino citizens who are at least eighteen (18) years of age on the day of election, and are registered as overseas absentee voters with approved application to vote in absentia, may vote.

Notice of Registration and Election

Notice is hereby given that on 10 May 2004 there will be a regular election for president, vice-president, senators and party-list representatives in the Philippines.

All qualified Filipino citizens who are not registered as a voter under Rep. Act. No 8189, otherwise known as “The Voters Registration Act. Of 1996”, (the system of continuing registration) shall file an application for registration while those who are already registered as a voter under the said Act shall file an application for certification.

In both cases only those whose application for registration or certification have been approved are qualified to file an application to vote for president, vice-president, senators and party-list representatives.

Registration will be held at the Embassy, 297 Avenue Moliere, 1050 Brussels. At dates which will be announced later.
