FILIPINO workers and their dependents in the hurricane-ravaged Cayman islands want to go home and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday said that a group of 187 would be brought to the Philippines within the week.

According to DOLE spokesperson Benedicto Bitonio Jr., the group was part of about 900 Filipino workers and their dependents who have been working at the British-controlled Caribbean territory and who were severely affected by Hurricane Ivan last week.

Bitonio said the Cayman islands was devastated by the hurricane and that the priority of the Philippine embassy in Washington was to bring them food as prices of food items in the area had risen.

One option being studied, he said, was to charter a plane and bring the evacuees to London for their flight back to the Philippines.
