Robin Padilla can't leave show, says ABS-CBN

ABS-CBN said Wednesday it did not accept the resignation of
actor Robin Padilla from the network's telenovela "Basta't Kasama
Kita," just three days after he announced he was leaving the show to be
with his wife and four children in Queensland, Australia.
The network instead allowed Robin to go on leave for several weeks and arranged for him to shoot several episodes of the show in advance. Robin, his manager Betchay Vidanes and the network agreed on this in a meeting Wednesday morning.
Last Sunday on "The Buzz" on ABS-CBN, Robin read a
letter in Filipino, addressed to his fans and loved ones, saying he was leaving
the show next month after his wife Liezel Sycangco said she wanted to end her
17-year marriage to Robin because there was another woman, whom she did not
identify. Liezel made her revelation in a phone interview on GMA 7's "Star
Talk" last Saturday.
"I only have one wife," Robin said last Sunday. "I cannot live without her. I couldn't believe that someone whom I consider very dear to me spread this rumor. We are one happy family. I beg you, please keep us whole." He did not say who spread the "rumor."
Liezel and their four children Roselle Elizabeth, 12, Kylie Nicole, 10, Sherileen Zel, 9 and Robinhood Fernando, 3, have been living in Australia for three years now. Robin said he and Liezel decided it would be best for the kids to grow up away from the intrigues of show business.
On Wednesday, Vidanes told Inquirer Entertainment, "We reviewed his contract with the network and explained to him that he cannot resign from the series. We agreed that he would go on a vacation in Australia and allowed him to do advance tapings for the show."
She said Robin would immediately return to complete his contract, which is set to expire in May 2004.
In "Basta't Kasama Kita," Robin co-stars with Judy Ann Santos. Earlier this week, talk said Judy Ann was Robin's other woman and was pregnant with his baby. Judy Ann's manager Alfie Lorenzo denied this.
Judy Ann is flying to the US on November 19, to perform in a series of shows. "I'm sure people would say Juday (the actress' nickname) had an abortion that's why she went to the States," said Alfie.
