Over 40% of Filipinos want Macapagal to resign: survey

OVER 40 percent of Filipinos believe that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo should resign, results of an Ibon Foundation survey released Wednesday showed.

Out of 1,302 respondents polled nationwide, 47.93 percent said they believed Ms Macapagal should step down while only 29.11 percent said she should not, said the survey, a copy of which was sent to INQ7.net.

The survey, which had a margin of error of plus/minus three percent, was conducted from September 29 to October 15.

A separate study conducted on the same set of respondents showed Ms Macapagal's net satisfaction rating in the third quarter dropped to 14.75 percent, a little more than half of the 22.65 percent she recorded during the second quarter due to allegations of corruption in her administration and among members of her family.

Then vice president Macapagal was catapulted to the presidency after a military-backed popular revolt in January 2001 toppled her predecessor Joseph Estrada over alleged widespread corruption under his term. Joel Guinto
