Pinoy twins leave N.Y. hospital for rehab

NEW YORK - Conjoined twin boys from the Philippines left a Bronx hospital Wednesday for a few weeks of rehabilitation before their next operation.

Eighteen-month-old Carl and Clarence Aguirre, who are joined at the tops of their heads, are recovering from Monday's surgery, the first of several that should end with their separation.

Their pediatrician, Dr. Robert Marion, said they left the children's hospital at Montefiore Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon for Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, where they have lived with their mother since they arrived from the Philippines September 10.

"The twins are returning to Blythedale to resume nutritional support and physical, occupational and speech therapy to help strengthen them for the surgeries to come," Marion said in a statement issued by Montefiore.

"Carl and Clarence came through their first operation wonderfully and all systems are 'go' with our plans," he said.
