Erap seeks two-day break from jail

Lawyers of jailed ex-president Joseph Estrada asked the Sandiganbayan on Wednesday for a two-day leave from detention for the ousted leader, who is currently detained at Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal.

In a three-page motion, Estrada's lawyers said the former president wants to visit his 98-year-old mother, Doņa Mary Ejercito, on October 26 in San Juan.

Estrada also wanted to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for his back on October 27.

Lawyer Noel Malaya said Estrada's doctor requested for the procedure after the deposed leader complained of intense back pain.

Malaya said Estrada would either go to Makati Medical Center or Saint Luke's Hospital for the MRI.
