A GOVERNMENT militiaman and a rebel were killed and three others were wounded in an encounter Wednesday in Polangui town, Albay province, a military report said.

Elsewhere in the country, troops overran three New People's Army satellite camps in remote areas in the provinces of Laguna, Agusan del Sur and Leyte, according to Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jose Kakilala.

Kakilala said a civilian auxiliary under the 22nd Infantry Battalion was killed in a clash Wednesday with the NPA in the village of Danao, Polangui, Albay. He said an NPA rebel was also killed in the clash, while one soldier and two government militiamen were wounded.

On Tuesday, soldiers from the 28th Infantry Battalion overran an NPA satellite camp in Road 8, Bonawan town, Agusan del Sur, and arrested Nordelito Dolare and a certain Ka Peter, alleged NPA members.

Kakilala said the camp had an observation post and social hall that could accommodate 200 people.

Also on Tuesday, troops led by a certain 2nd Lieutenant Pimentel discovered an NPA camp in the village of Calmini, Kavinti town, Laguna.

Kakilala said the abandoned camp had a sleeping area that could accommodate at least 100 people.

Last week, troops from the 19th Infantry Division left by 2nd Lieutenant Onofre Nelmida also discovered a rebel camp in the village of Patag, Ormoc City in Leyte.

The camp was reportedly maintained by rebel leader Nestor Caliwan of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Commission of the Communist Party of the Philippines, the report said.
