Welcome Ashley, one of the new additions to Viva Records’ lineup of young pop artists. The 16-year-old beauty from Bulacan was discovered in a unique way, which other singing hopefuls should take note of. She went to Karaoke King to record a CD as a Christmas gift for her grandmother. Found in major shopping malls, Karaoke King is where anybody can go to sing his heart out and go home with his own CD recording. While Ashley maintained that she never had any intention of joining show business, her recording of “Reflection,” “Hero” and “Power of Love” reached Viva Records and soon she was signed to a recording deal.
Now, more than a year later, her self-titled first album is now in the market. The lead single is her version of the Mon del Rosario song popularized by Tina Paner, “Tamis ng Unang Halik.” She also takes on other past hits, including “Sa Aking Pag-iisa” and “Kapag Tumibok ang Puso” with the hip-hop trio Salbakuta, plus more recent ones like “All You Wanted” by Michelle Branch. The album does have originals, including “Paligaw-ligaw Tingin” by Arnie Mendaros.
Ashley was born on March 24, 1987. She’s now a high-school student at the College of Holy Spirit in Malolos, Bulacan. She joined her first singing contest in school during second grade, doing “And I’m Telling You” from the musical Dreamgirls. She won first place.
