Arroyo ends state of rebellion in the Philippines

MANILA Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo lifted a state of rebellion in her country Monday, two weeks after she declared the status that allows arrests without warrants after disgruntled soldiers launched a mutiny against her administration.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) separately said an elaborate plan to overthrow Arroyo's government has been contained. (Kyodo News)
